Closing Strong on 3,000 Pounds – Don’t forget special collection for Arlington Community Services!

While we still want to reach 3,000 pounds hopefully this Sunday, the focus of this collection is to raise cash for Arlington Community Services (ACS).  ACS does more than manage a food pantry for its neediest residents .  They have recreational activities as well as academic and social counseling.  While they have limited funding, they also assist their clients with overdue bills when resources are available.  We are trying to fund this basket of services with the Special Collection so we are looking for as much cash as you can part with.  When locals come to UUCJ for help, we refer them to Arlington Community Services.  Before starting special collections program, we use to budget $1,000 in our the UUCJ annual budget.  We now have special collection in lieu of the budget item.  Yes, also bring the food if you can.

Arlington Food Bank Update

We are on pace to donate 1500 pounds of foodstuffs by June 30.  We are currently at 1440 pounds as of June 12 delivery to ACS Food Bank.

If we keep this pace, we can make 3,000 pounds by December 31.  We did little over 2,000 last year and that required a last minute run to BJ’s.  Keep up the good work and thanks for your generosity to those in need.

Garden Work Day

Saturday, February 11th (10-1)

Meet at UUCJ’s garden (growing food for pantries) located at Tree Hill Nature Center (7152 Lone Star Road 32211-East Entrance) to help us tend the beds. Tools provided. Bathrooms on site. Wear work clothes and bring gloves if you have them. The more help we have, the more food we can grow!

Arlington Community Food Bank needs Food

The Arlington Community Services (ACS) food bank is always in need of more food to distribute to Arlington residents in need. We challenge our members to each bring a can a week to the church. The donations are collected in a bin and on shelves located outside the Sanctuary doors on Sunday mornings, so you can easily leave your donations as you enter the service. The list of needed items is as follows:

  • canned meats
  • dry beans
  • green peas
  • cookies
  • cold cereal
  • dry milk packets
  • pork and beans
  • snacks/crackers
  • soup
  • jelly
  • plain rice
  • toothpaste
